Results and report from our boat match at Ravensthorpe Water on Saturday 15th May.

There was a good turn out for our first boat match of this season at Ravensthorpe. Conditions were looking good despite the damp start. The weather conditions looked good for some top of the water sport, dull, cloudy, overcast, southerly breeze but with on and off showers. Some boats mingled around the Lodge bank for a start, and were immediately rewarded and into fish. Most opted to drift and with the southerly gusty wind was ideal for going straight down the middle of the water. Despite the perfect conditions it was obvious that there was not a fish feast going on, with only intermittent rods bending. Most anglers were twiddling on floating or sink tip lines and not yet reverted to the dark side. We all met up for a socially distanced boat lunch, we were also treated to some of Rays chicken and ham pie and Andy's slices of delicious cake being passed around. It was clear at lunchtime some boats had struggled in the morning with only a couple catching consistently. It was decided at lunch to call it a day at 5-00pm.

Lunch over it was back out, with some anglers converting to the dark side in the afternoon. Although a few called it a day a little earlier it was all over at 5-00 and back in.

Thank you to all members that turned, also our thanks to Anglian Water and Sophia the warden for her help on the day up the results are as follows :

Total number of fish caught : 87

Rod average : 5.45

The winning boat was Gary How and Mark Searle with a total for 32 fish to the boat. There method was to drift all day and fishing either floating or buzzer lines with a FAB on the point fly and a combination of buzzers and nymphs. Thanks must go to Gary and Mark for there contribution to pushing up the rod average.

Our next match is as follows :

Sunday 6thJune 2021 : Boat match at Grafham Water.

EMTFA Summer News Letter

2020 has proved to be the worst year for most people due to the Covid pandemic across the world.
This season we have only managed to have 2 events once we were allowed to commence fishing.
The two newsletters below relay how the days progressed

Our first match of a re-arranged fishing programme finally took place on Sunday 26th July at
Grafham. For some it was their first get together of the re-arranged season.

Following Anglian Water Covid-19 guidelines, 20 anglers made their way leisurely onto the
water. Conditions were looking good with a cloudy overcast sky although the
westerly/south westerly wind was at times very brisk and blustery, reaching speeds of 15-18
mph. Our choice of a lunch time meet up along the Long Bank was perhaps not the best
choice with the wind conditions on the day. However at lunch time every one was reporting
they had caught, some more than others, some had sat the morning sheltered off the West
Bank and Savages others venturing out in to open water. We decided at lunch to call it a day at 5.30 pm.
The afternoon saw most of the boats head off to the South end of the Dam and Gaynes Cove area with a couple going back to Savages and West Bank areas where the action appeared to be slow. There were also a few anchored boats which made drifting awkward
and also boat pressure can affect fishing in Savages, anglers were reporting seeing plenty of snails in the water and drogues and were catching using UV Straggle Cormorants.
In the afternoon there was plenty of action drifting from 150-200 yards out from the Dam around A buoy area towards the Tower, looking around there was plenty of rods bending on
various methods and lines. The fish did not appear to be too deep in top 2 feet of the water, I personally had been on a floater with very little action and a change to a Slow Glass resulted in immediate action. Fly choice did not seem critical more the depth, most of the boats around A buoy area were well into double figures catching on floaters with a fast
figure of 8 on Hoppers, Midge Tips and shrimp patterns, Slow and Fast Glass rolly polly  or
stroked back with Fabs and Blobs.

Autumn News Letter

Our second match the Annual Birthday Anniversary match took place on Wednesday 9th September at Pitsford Water. A total of 34 anglers took part, it was good to see some of our own members turn out for their first time since last season as well our friends from Invicta FFC and Mid Northants FFC.
Following Anglian Water Covid-19 guidelines, 34 anglers made their way through the tunnel with the majority heading for the main bowl area. Conditions were looking good with a cloudy overcast sky although the westerly/south westerly wind was at times brisk and blustery. It appeared to be perfect conditions for top of the water action with long wind lanes forming on the water. Looking around it appeared that most competitors had opted
for floating lines and fishing dries or twiddling nymphs. Although conditions appeared good it did not inspire the trout to respond to the conditions. Those that were fishing dries were
reporting to having responses from fish, but only having a look and swimming around at their fly not willing to commit to take. The lack of rod bending action was an indication that
it was not going to be a difficult day.
This match we normally come off the water for a hot lunch but due to the current Covid situation this was not possible so we all met up at lunch time in Brixworth Bay. The lunch meet was very sociable event with plenty of views on the mornings fishing and it was apparent a few had mastered the morning session, but for the majority it had been a lean morning. It was agreed at lunch to call it a day 5-00pm for some it could not come earlier
enough.
The afternoon saw most of the boats head off to the same areas as in the morning. Again this session it started off in same weather conditions with the wind swinging around more.
As in the morning the action seemed to be the same slow, and as the afternoon progressed the sun started to make an appearance and the cloud cover started to break up eventually
becoming clear blue sky and sunshine not the best conditions.
Five clock came with everyone back at the jetty and with no weighing in, just a point per fish caught the results were calculated quickly and as following.
1st: Terry Bayes and Pete Webb.                    14 points.
2nd: Barry Jones and John Mills.                    12 points.
3rd: Fraser Duffy Snr and Fraser Duffy Jnr.    10 points.
3rd: Mark Searle and Gary How.                     10 points.

Congratulations to Terry and Pete from Mid Northants FFC on what turned out to be a difficult day. Their winning approach was to fish Fast Glass lines with an Orange Tequila booby on the point with two Muskins in the main bowl.
A total of 105 fish were caught with 8 anglers returning a clean sheet to give a rod average of 3.09. Special mention to the specimen hunters amongst us for catching decent Brownies
in the match John Clarke had one and Tony Smith was greedy with two pictures on social media.
The club would like to thank Anglian Water for their continuing support and help in this event and for the generous gift vouchers for the prizes.
That is all we have planned for our Covid re arranged 2020 programme. However if there is enough support and it is possible to arrange an extra Sunday match at Grafham in October subject of course to the latest Government guidelines and boat availability.
